Chris Morton

Chris Morton MBE (born 22 July 1956) is a former speedway rider who spent his whole career (1973 to 1990) on the books of the Belle Vue Aces.
Chris was born in Davyhulme, Manchester and rode bikes from a young age at the farm of Peter Collins' parents. Chris attended his first meeting at Belle Vue with his parents in 1964.
Chris made his debut for Ellesmere Port (on loan from the Aces) on 15 May 1973 failing to complete a race. He showed steady improvement, but had to wait until 1975 for his call up to the Aces.
Chris never won the world individual championship, but he did claim the world pairs crown with best friend Peter Collins in 1984.
Chris retired from riding in 1990, becoming manager of Berwick Bandits in 1991.
Chris played a major role in the introduction of speedway to Buxton in 1994.
He was awarded his MBE for services to club, country and the sport in 1992.
Chris returned to Belle Vue as commercial manager and currently serves in that position.
