[edit] Playing career
He began his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who drafted him third overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. The next year he played his rookie year with the team, playing in all 84 games. He was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers before the 1996-97 season and had perhaps his best season with the Flyers in 1997-98, when he matched his career high of 62 points and recorded a career-best plus/minus rating of +11. He was traded back to Tampa Bay the next season. Before joining the Panthers he also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Phoenix Coyotes, and Colorado Avalanche.
[edit] Criticism
Because of his rare combination of size, skill, and demonstrated scoring prowess (in junior hockey), Gratton has been criticized throughout his professional career as an underacheiver who has failed to perform to his potential.
