Chris Glenn (born Christopher John Glenn, in Adelaide, South Australia, February 28, 1968) is an Australian born radio DJ, television personality, producer and director. He is an historian, adventurer and helicopter pilot living and working in Nagoya, Japan.
Glenn spent 1985 living in Sapporo, Japan as a Rotary Exchange Student before commencing his radio career in 1986 at Outermetro 5MU, Murray Bridge. At that time he was the youngest professional DJ in Australian commercial radio. He subsequently worked for 5DN Adelaide as a talk back announcer, again, the youngest capital city radio personality at the time. He survived the stations conversion to FM in 1991 to 102FM, and the buy out which became the disastrous X102. Glenn returned to Japan in 1992, and continued in radio at KTYO in Tokyo, before joining ZIP-FM Nagoya from its inception in 1993. After 10 and a half years at ZIP, he left to join Nagoya based radio station 79.5FMRadio-i, doing weekday programmes in English and Japanese.
Since 1994, Glenn has been an active member of the Japan Armour and Weapons Research and Preservation Society, and an apprentice to Nobuo Ogawa, one of the last remaining true armourers and armour restorers in Japan. He took part in the 400th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Sekigahara in 2000.In March 2005, he flew a helicopter 12,000Km from his native Australia back to his adopted home in Japan as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations between Aichi Prefecture, Japan and Victoria (Australia), as well as the 25th anniversary of the Sydney - Nagoya sister City celebrations. To further Japan Australia relations, Glenn created and produced the official Japan Australia Year Of Exchange project, the Samurai Festival, bringing a Samurai culture and history tour to Australian audiences in November 2006.
One of the most recognised voices in central Japan, Glenn often appears as an MC at various events and on television in addition to his radio work. Glenn now heads media production company and advertising agency PPF (Past Present Future) and is the Chairman of the Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Japan, Central Japan chapter.
