Chris Fortier is an American DJ who has released mix compilations on record labels such as EQ (Grey) with his Balance 007 DJ mix. Fortier's DJ-ing covers a range of styles from dark progressive to minimalist techno.

[edit] Background

Fortier was first inspired to DJ by hearing Kimball Collins and Dave Cannalte.[citation needed] He started DJing small house parties in 1990. In 1991, he received his first residency at a small club in Melbourne, FL in 1991 called the "METRO". His popularity there lead to him gaining a fill-on residency at the legendary "AAHZ" night at the Beacham Theater.[citation needed]

In 1995, Fortier started Fade Records. The label was set up to release his own material written and produced with partner Neil Kolo. This label was one of the first in Orlando, and along with Zone and Knightlife, it became the catalyst for the Orlando music production scene to blossom. During this time he began to gain national recognition, and started to travel further from Florida playing at many of the major clubs and events around the country and Canada.[citation needed] In 1997, Fortier was on his first full scale DJ tour throughout the UK with Jimmy Van Malleghem and John Digweed playing clubs like Cream, Sugar Shack and Babalicious. In 1998, the Fade duo proceeded to remix one of the years top anthems in Delerium’s "Silence". His "Silence" remix has solidified Fortier and Kolo’s reputation as progressive music remixers.[citation needed]

Fortier is currently working on a new album, with an anticipated release period of April 2007, and is planning a club tour to promote the album.
