Chris Casamassa (born January 17, 1965) is an American martial artist, actor and stuntman who is best known for his role as Scorpion in the movie Mortal Kombat, which was based on the popular fighting-game series.
While Casamassa did the majority of his own stunts in the movie, his voice was provided by MK co-creator Ed Boon, who had also voiced Scorpion in the games. Casamassa also played Scorpion in the TV show, Mortal Kombat: Conquest, but was unavailable for the second movie, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, due to scheduling conflicts, with another summer film Batman & Robin, where he doubled for George Clooney.
A fan of the MK series before appearing in the movie, Casamassa fantasized in a 1994 interview with the short-lived video game/comics magazine Flux that he would have liked to appear in the games as a fire-breathing character nicknamed "Red Dragon." He did, however, carry this nickname (minus the fire-breathing) over into the syndicated cable TV series WMAC Masters, which co-starred MK game actor Ho Sung Pak (Liu Kang), and Hakim Alston, who made an appearance in the MK movie and played Jax in the 1996 live tour.
Casamassa is slated to play Scorpion once more in the upcoming third Mortal Kombat film, Mortal Kombat: Devastation.
Casamassa also created a new weight loss program for kids called "KICKNFIT" which is a combination of his style of martial arts, kickboxing, and yoga.
