Chris Burney ( a.k.a Christopher van Malmsteen, born May 25, 1969 in Wichita County, Texas) is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the pop punk band Bowling for Soup. He graduated from Midwestern State University, in 1993.

Christopher Lee Burney was born in Wichita County, TX. He graduated in 1993 in Physical Education from the Midwestern State University. In 1994, together with Jaret Reddick, Erik Chandler and Lance Morril, he formed the pop punk band, Bowling for Soup. He plays a Les Paul guitar. He also has a two year old french bulldog named Sherman Mabobber Burney. Chris is quite proud of his extensive DVD collection, and is a guns and ammo enthusiast. When Chris is not on the road, he enjoys a rousing game of Golden Tee, coupled with double Jack Daniels and diet Coke, tall.
