Career Highlights

Chris "Bear" Bryan (born March 6, 1982) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

Bryan was recruited by the Carlton Football Club the number 73 draft pick in the 2004 AFL Draft from Frankston. He made his debut for the Carlton in Round 11, 2005 against the Sydney Swans.

Continuing on the Carlton's late-draft-selection success story, Bryan was a surprise selection at pick 73, given a second chance at playing at an AFL level after failing to be picked up in the draft several years earlier. He made a stunning debut against Sydney. He was one of the club's best players for the second half of the 2005 season, taking over the main ruck position after Barnaby French was sidelined with a foot injury; however, his ruck skills were not fully developed until the 2006 season.

Bryan was quickly noticed for his long accurate kick, and by his second game, Carlton supporters began to shout "woof!" each time he kicked the ball, as they had done with other long kickers in the past, most recently Ang Christou.

He struggled to be picked for selection during the 2006 season, as Dylan McLaren was recruited to fill the secondary ruck position behind French. Bryan played five games towards the end of the season, but was dropped to the VFL reserves for the finals. Bryan was delisted by Carlton at the end of 2006.

Bryan nominated for the pre-season draft, and was taken by the Collingwood Football Club with the eighth pick overall. He will play with the Magpies from 2007.
