User:Chovain/Is Brilliance a sockpuppet?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I created this page in response to part of this comment, which was left on my talk page by Abu ali (talk contribs). This page includes my personal opinions surrounding a number of users. It is by no means meant to insult anyone. If anyone wants to discuss the contents of this page, it should be done on my talk page. This page is an essay, not a discussion.

Basically, Abu ali asked me if I thought Brilliance (talk contribs) could be a sock puppet of Isarig (talk contribs), Amoruso (talk contribs) or SlimVirgin (talk contribs).

To cut a long story short: No, I do not believe Brilliance is a sock puppet of any of those users.

[edit] =Brilliance

Looking at Brilliance's edits, it is quite clear that they are an inexperienced editor. I not a number of behaviours by this user:

  • They copy replies to other user's on their own page, prefixed with '''Response'''. This is a unique behaviour, and the kind of thing a relatively new editor will do.
  • While Brilliance did not take long to make their first (and only) POV edit,[1], the user made a suitably non-pov correction[2] after a single request.[3]
  • Note, however, that this edit has been reverted by another user. It could fairly be reverted for being uncited, but I'm not sure how it's NPOV.
  • When Brilliance saw Abu ali's now famous comment,[4] they did not seek help from any of the users mentioned by Abu ali, nor did they seek help from their network of friends they would have if they were really one of the mentioned users. Instead, they allegedly went to some list somewhere, and picked a name randomly.[5]
  • Brilliance makes heavy use of edit summaries that tend to be 1-2 words long.
  • Based on a single talk page comment,[6] Brilliance highlights their own hyperbole by making it bold :).

Some grammatical and semantic notes:

  1. "neutral, unbiased information". The user (correctly) separates adjectives with commas.
  2. application of the verb "kill" to the noun "lives". This is an odd application - not sure if it tells me anything.
  3. Used comma delimited specification twice in that same message:
  • "[...] you are using Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, to [...]"
  • "[...] you use an encylopedia, where people come for neutral, unbiased information[,] in order to [...]"
  1. Brilliance writes with American or OED English ("Organization", not "organisation" (more info))
