Chotiros Suriyawong
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chotiros "Amy" Suriyawong (Thai:"เอมี่" โชติรส สุริยะวงศ์) is a Thai actress and university student. During the 2007 Subhanahongsa Awards, Chotiros wore a black evening gown. Her dress proved extremely controversial, with some criticizing it as being too sexy. Somsak Techaratanaprasert, the owner of Sahamongkol Film International (Thailand's largest production house) ordered all footage of Chotiros to be deleted from his film Suay Samurai, saying he didn't make "porn" films. He also banned her from appearing in any of his future films. Ministry of Culture Khaisri Sri-aroon called her dress "very inappropriate." However, Amy was also supported by many, some of which resented the military junta's morality drive.[1]
Chotiros was a senior at the Faculty of Liberal Arts of Thammasat University at the time. University Rector Suraphol Nitikraipot and Assistant Rector for Student Affairs Prinya Thewanaruemitkul forced Chotiros to appear before a press conference with deans of the University, and made her apologize for her actions. She was warned that the University might deny her a diploma.[2] They also punished her by forcing her to read books to blind children for 15 days, as well as perform other community services. Suraphol noted that "Society feels this is a disgrace and her actions have affected the reputation of this university."[3]
