Cholo Laurel

Rafael Manuel Hidalgo Laurel is a Filipino filmmaker, best known for the Star Cinema Classic Film Nasaan Ka Man, his debut film.

He was born to Manuel S. Laurel (deceased) and Lilia Dayrit Hidalgo (deceased). He has four older siblings named Victor (deceased), Gina, Amy (deceased) and Rico. Educated at the University of the Philippines College of Broadcast Communications (1986) and New York University CEP Film School (1995), Cholo has been directing since 1996.

Called Cholo by his peers, he is a Filipino filmmaker who directs feature films as well as tv commercials. He is best known for penning and directing the Star Cinema Classic Film "Nasaan Ka Man" which swept the 2005 FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences) Awards. He is a FAMAS awardee for Best Director, Best Story, and Best Screenplay. The film also won the Best Picture award.

He is also a recipient of the Gawad Tanglaw Best Director Award given by Critics from the Academic Circle.
