Chopper bicycles have been around as long as there have been chopper motorcycles. The term chopper refers to a bike that has had some of it's parts modified or replaced with custom parts. Over the years a low profile and a long front end have been two of the more popular elements associated with both chopper motorcycles and chopper bicycles. In the past chopper bicycle fans would chop their own bikes in their garage or their back yard. Such home made projects yeilded results ranging from simple fork sretching to elaborate and sophistocated designs, worthy of the respect of their big brothers in the motorcycle world.
The twenty first century has seen the birth of a new chopper bicycle movement. The increasing number of chopper motorcycle television shows like American Chopper and Build or Bust has inspired a chopper bicycle culture that includes Custom Chopper Bicycle Designers. A Custom Chopper Bicycle Designer will have unique frame styles and parts to work with, that are not seen in local bike shops. Designers such as Doc Chopper operate much like a custom motorcycle builder would, designing a chopper bicycle or lowrider for you that is based on your own ideas, and chopper bicycle clubs such as the Florida based, Freakbike Militia, are glad to see new designs available for their members.
