Chloramphenicol acetyltransferase is a bacterial enzyme that detoxifies the antibiotic chloramphenicol. It is responsible for chloramphenicol resistance in bacteria. This enzyme covalentely attaches an acetyl group from acetyl coA to the chloramphenicol molecule so that it is unable to bind to the ribosome.
