there are different versions. originally chkdsk was a DOS thing, then changed to scandisk ,then back to chkdsk. should this major section be called "Windows XP" or "Windows NT"? 141.155.28.92 00:40, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

In many old Windows manuals, I am told not to run Chkdsk /f while inside Windows.
