Talk:ChildCare Action Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some movies, like Matilda, were not rated because they contained such much "inappropriate" material that the reviewer couldn't keep track, or offended him so much that he didn't watch them to the end. These should probably be in the list of lowest-rated movies. — FJG 17:24, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Controversy

The 'controversy' section should be re-written to include references, or removed. As it stands, it is nothing more than an opinion piece by someone who disagrees with CAP. --TheJeffMiller 15:47, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ratings

From the article: "(cursing, defying God's word, following a religion or performing the rituals of a religion other than Christianity, mentioning evolution or the earth being round, etc.)" The earth being round?? Is this a snide POV comment or an actual example of something CAPalert deems offensive? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm pretty sure it's a snide POV comment. I've read a lot of CAP reviews and have never seen a reference like that. --Metropolitan90 08:08, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
I have seen the ultra literist argument for why the bible says the earth is flat (so the claim does at least exist), but I've never actually ever heard anyone who believed it, and I think it's too extreme even for CAP Alert, though I've not read enough CAP reviews and don't particularly want to in order to search for a reference to it. I think it can pretty safely be removed. The argument has something to do with a bible passage that refers to something (in the sky, on a tower, mountain, something like that) that could be seen from everywhere on Earth, which wouldn't be possible if the Earth was round. [edit] GRRRR

OMG! They actually take off points for films that mention evolution or other religions? That is an obvious lack of respect for other peoples opinions! (or Hoşgörü as we turks call it)

PS: I wonder what they found offencive in 'Piglets Big Movie' LOL!193.140.197.56 12:28, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree. I used to be addicted to CAPAlert, and it made me kind of depressed, with the help of other fundie sites, and made me lose my innocence, getting rid of roughly half my happiness back when I was twelve. It's pretty dang intolerant, and even homophobic. They also deny how idiotic they are, and I even suspect that they neglect their several billion adopted kids for the sake of reviewing movies and insulting almost everyone with their holier-than-thou-ness. (Or at least confuse them severely and leave them acting like Li'l Suzy from Jack Chick tracts.) Made me hate myself and think that having an imagination was sinful for a while, since apparently God doesn't want us to enjoy anything and just wants us to shove ignorance down kids' throats. I can't stand ignorant people, and it made me seem stupid as a twelve-year-old, draining the humor from me ever since I clicked on a link to there.
People like the CAPAlert guy make me all sick inside, having robbed me of happiness that's gradually coming back, corny as it sounds. So yup, an obvious lack of respect for other peoples' beliefs. I'm also blocking myself from ever going there again, hopefully. Visiting the site, after all, really makes me sick how some people can see things in black and white and think that God thinks humans are retards. (And yup, I broke the URLs by inserting Q's into them.)
Re-looking at that site makes me feel guilty for having an imagination all over again already.....! It's also kind of odd how a site that claims to want to save kids' ignorance / innocence / whatever actually caused me to lose mine. When you're young, you don't know that this and that is wrong, and you dream and scribble out your fantasies without worrying what some being that can't possibly watch all 6.something billion people at once would think of them. But, as seen with fundamentalists, you can also be taught bigotry, intolerance, and are never taught reason along with those. I'm curious whether this Tom Carder person who owns CAPAlert was broght up like that or not?
