[edit] Meanwhile, in underdeveloped countries...
... hundreds of other charities are contributing millions upon millions of dollars to other causes, including some quite similar ones. Charity is not a zero sum game. Nentuaby 20:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- What? Are you saying their efforts are meaningless because the hospitals happen to be in a first-world country? Just because the US isn't a third world country doesn't mean there aren't sick and dying children who could use a little help and a smile. One charities reach doesn't change the value of any other charity. They each have there own purpose and goal, independent of one another. You want a charity that works for third-world poverty, start it yourself with that purpose and goal, and then there will be one. -- Ubergenius 15:48, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

- I'm not sure exactly what the sentiment was, but the statement "Charity is not a zero sum game" supports the concept of "lesser" charities by noting that they do not detract from the funding of those giving to the developing world. Chris Cunningham 16:26, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

- "Mr. Boggs also placed the winning bid on an original pencil sketch of the PAX 2005 program cover on eBay. 100% of the profits went to the American Red Cross." Dont the American Red cross help in the third world? 62.232.65.170 13:12, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Goal of child's play
I think this should be added in. The goal of child's play isn't quite like other charities which collect money for the hospitals to buy new equipment or general maintenance. The toys collected are mainly to improve childrens' (especially ones who are in for long-term stays) experience in the hospital to be more enjoyable.
[edit] Major Expansion
I have made a huge expansion to the article, and funny enough it's my first time editing. Leave a message for me. ^_^ Druss666uk 18:30, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Media's perception of gamers
"Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins founded Child's Play in 2003 as a way to refute mainstream media's perception of gamers as violent and antisocial."
True though it may be, I really don't think mentioning this in the first paragraph as the primary reason for starting the charity is fair to the PA guys. The wording suggests that the only reason they're being charitable is so people think they (and by proxy, gamers in general) are great people. It's ascribing selfish motivation to a magnificent act of charity, and I really think it can be worded better. Mashuren 22:56, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, while changing perceptions about gamers might be a helpful side effect, the main goal was always to provide gifts to people in hospitals. It should be modified. Zrekhan 13:11, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
