[edit] POV
This article which should be about an organisation is a POV essay about mandatory detnetion of children in Australia. The article needs to be cleaned up to discuss the significance of the organisation.--Peta 05:50, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Dabookster 07:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC)The article was about conditions suffered by children under mandatory detention, which is ChilOut's reason for being. Having deleted these details, the article now makes little sense. I have now inserted a x-ref to children in detention, which doesn't really suffice, but given your deleteion of the original article, I don't see what else can be done.
- There is lots you can say about an organisation without parroting their press releases. How many members does it have? Has it been the focus of significant media attention? This is an encyclopedia not a free web host. --Peta 08:16, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- A great deal of time and research went into the orginal article before it was gutted. The original article contained references to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, a Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Report (which took five years to research and write) and a great deal of time to digest, government press releases advocating their position, reports by the South Australian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, High Court case of Vardalis, a reading of the Migration Act (which takes some legal knowledge), a reading of the proposed Migration Amendment (Designated Unauthorised Arrivals) Bill 2006 (now abandoned because of wide community outrage). It takes a lot of effort to write an article, but not much thought to gut it then critisise it for being inadequate.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dabookster (talk • contribs).
