Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, commonly known as Chis 'n' Sid is a mixed gender grammar school located in Hurst Road, Sidcup in the London Borough of Bexley, United Kingdom.The school is well known in the local area for its distinctive purple blazers and reputation for high standards of education. In the 1960s the school was ranked third in the country.

The school was founded as an all boys' grammar school in the 1930s. It then moved to different locations twice before settling in its current location in 1954. As a grammar school, Chislehurst and Sidcup only allowed pupils who passed their Eleven Plus exams, and therefore commanded high achieving results. In the 1960s, the school was ranked as the 3rd school in the country in the league tables. It became a mixed school in 1973. The school has not been top of the local league tables for some time, until in March 2007.

The school gained a Sports College status. In 2005, Dr J. Vitagliano took over the position of headmaster. The 2005/6 GCSE Results raised the position of the school in the league tables, with 98% of the school's students getting passes.

In 2004, a Jubilee sports pavilion was built. In the near future a new art & technology block will be completed and named after Quentin Blake, a former pupil at the school.

In the 2006-07 Rugby season the school's 2ndXV had unprecedented success at Rugby Union, going the whole season without losing a single game. The team won the British and Irish league, which established it as the top 2ndXV in the northern hemisphere. This season set various school records such as the only team ever to go unbeaten the entire season, the greatest amount of consequetive wins (17), the lowest number of tries conceded (18), the highest amount of points per game (34.6), the largest average win margin per game (28),largest 2ndXV win margin ever (60-0) and the most tries ever scored by a 2ndXV (105) help reflect the significance of the season. Record wins over Skinners school (40-0), Ipswich School (60-0), Hampton School (58-17) and Whitgift School (26-3) were significant results. To date this season is the most successful season Chis n Sid has had at any level and is known in school history as 'the season of dreams'.

  • Quentin Blake, the famous illustrator, went to Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School.
  • The school has sport college status. It has a joint sports college status with neighboring Hurstmere Comprehensive.
  • Each year group is split into houses named after the founders of the school - D,E,L,S,T and W (Davies, Edlmann, Leicester, Staff, Townsend and Williams).
  • A book, Past purple was written about the history of the school.
  • In 1973 the compulsory wearing of the school cap was abolished and nobody has worn one at the school since.
  • In January 1983 the school featured on the front pages of all the national tabloids. Excessive drinking at the 1982 Sixth Form Christmas Party resulted in the suspension of the majority of the sixth form for one day. The story was reported by all national newspapers. The Sun nicknamed the school "Sozzlehurst and Hiccup".
  • On 4th May 1971, four home-made bombs were found in the woods adjoining the school. It is thought these belonged to the Angry Brigade. [1][citation needed]
