Chip Fields

Chip Fields, who is sometimes credited as Chip Hurd or Chip Fields-Hurd, (born August 5, 1951) is an American actress, director, consultant, and dialogue coach, who has appeared in popular films, television shows, and Broadway theatre. She is best known for portraying Penny Gordon's abusive birth mother in a four-part episode of the 1970s sitcom Good Times. She is also the mother of Kim and Alexis Fields. She was previously married to Barry Hankerson, who is divorced from singer Gladys Knight. She has been married to technical director Erv Hurd since August 20, 1994.

Chip has had numerous supporting roles and guest appearances on television. She played an unwed mother opposite Patty Weaver in the NBC television soap opera, Days of Our Lives. She played Rita Conway in the short-lived The Amazing Spider-Man TV Series from 1978-1979. Rita Conway was J. Jonah Jameson's secretary, which defers from comic continuity, since Betty Brant is the original secretary. She also appeared in What's Happening!!, Hill Street Blues, T.J. Hooker, Roc, Kirk (a short-lived sitcom starring Kirk Cameron), The Wayans Bros., and The Parkers. She has also directed episodes of the popular UPN sitcoms, One on One, All of Us, Girlfriends, and The Parkers. She has been a consultant for The Parkers, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, Living Single, and was a dialogue coach for the movie, Menace II Society.

  • Chip co-starred in the 1974 movie, Change at 125th Street with Franklin Cover and Roxie Roker. These two would later portray one of the first interracial married couples on prime time TV in The Jeffersons.
  • Chip also appeared in The Facts of Life and Living Single, as the mother of Tootie Ramsey and the mother of Regine Hunter, respectively. Both Tootie and Regine were portrayed by Chip's real life daughter, Kim Fields.
