Chinese Vietnamese people in Ho Chi Minh City

Chinese Vietnamese people in Ho Chi Minh City. There are around 500,000 Chinese Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City. They live mainly in Cho Lon (District 5, District 6 and District 10). This can be seen as “China Town” in Ho Chi Minh City. Chinese Vietnamese population accounts just 4% of the city population but they hold around 30% of private-owned enterprises in this city. Many of these enterprises are successful companies like: Binh Tien, Thai Tuan, Kinh Do. Before Fall of Saigon, Chinese Vietnamese played a very important role in economic and political life of the Republic of Vietnam as they used to keep excellent relationships with the government. After the Fall of Saigon, especially after the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979, many Chinese Vietmamese fled Vietnam to China, Southeast Asian Region, the Chinese Vietnamese still played an important role in trading, wholesale activities but their importance have reduced.
