Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke (born 1st June 1986) is a Nigerian footballer who plays for Lyn.
"Edu", as he is also known in Norway, came to Norway at the same time as his countryman Mikel, and is considered to have a potensial to grow to be a world class player. In June 2005 he was also linked with a move to Chelsea. Chinedu impressed in the Under-20 World Championships in Holland in the summer of 2005, and scored both in the semi-final and the final, (which Nigeria lost to Argentina). It is unknown what the future holds for the career of the Nigerians at Lyn. "Edu" has currently (10.23.06) scored eight goals in the last eight matches and is considered as one of the best strikers in the Norwegian Tippeligaen (Norwegian PL).
On August 14, 2006, it was reported in UK newspaper The Times that Arsenal were interested in signing Ogbuke. At the time he was also linked with CSKA Moscow and Liverpool. On December 20 a transfer deal was announced with Lokomotiv Moscow[1] and Ogbuke was set to move to the Russian side in January. The deal was torpedoed, however, when the president, sporting director and manager of Lokomotiv were all fired six days later.
Ogbuke has since been linked to Wigan and Portsmouth after having trials at both clubs. It increasingly seems likely he will be plying his trade in the Premiership sooner or later.
