Chinatown Film Festival
The Chinatown Film Festival ("CFF") concept was established towards the end of 2005 as the first major international competitive Asian film festival in New York. Because of its conceptual uniqueness, the festival received tremendous amounts of media coverage - giving it exposure to both national and international audiences. Through this, the CFF is acquiring approvals and participation, sponsorships and endorsements, and funding. Most importantly, the CFF is creating a community outreach program that will unite and uplift the Chinatown community. Since 2006, CFF is partnering with different Asian cultural associations, as well as community patrons. Together, they will strive to establish a common ground for which various cultures can integrate and interact with one another. Due to this collaboration, the festival will increase exponentially each year in both the number of submissions as well as program size and quality.
THE BRIDGE
The 1st Chinatown Film Festival is titled "The Bridge: Connecting Cultures Through Film in the Heart of Asian Traditions".
THE MISSION
The Chinatown Film Festival is a 501(c)(3)* non-profit corporation whose mission is to increase exposure of Asian culture while uniting it with American and other International cultures. The CFF will benefit the NYC Chinatown community on a variety of levels. The CFF will act as a strong cultural liason uniting both East and West through film, entertainment, and art.
- MACRO: As China grows in the world paradigm on a variety of levels, Americans remain with little understanding or exposure to contemporary Chinese culture. The CFF is a concept that creates a new point of contact between Chinese-Asian culture and mass society. Film is the ideal medium; as it is multidimensional as well as easily and readily accessed.
- MICRO: A Chinatown Renaissance. The CFF will provide a springboard for the continued rebirth of NYC’s Chinatown. With the creation of an international event such as the CFF, the image of historic Chinatown will be recharged and have new international appeal for visitors, businesses, and community members.
- application pending
The CFF is without a doubt unique to its kind. It is the first international competitive Asian film festival in New York that strives to create an intercultural exchange between Eastern and Western cultures. Along with our multi-cultural partners, the CFF aims to establish a common ground for which members of the Chinatown community and various other culures can come together and interact with one another.
THE WEBSITE
Starting with the launch of the website (www.cff2008.org[1]) in December 2006, the CFF’s reach, along with its partners will be endless. Over 2 million estimated people will visit the festival’s website, and that is before the festival’s official start in October 2008. The CFF website will be more than just an Internet site, it will be a gathering for the Asian, American, and other International communities to come together and communicate openly. The CFF website, will manage a database that will contain at least 50,000 profiled (registered) people, which will include distributors, celebrities, film industry professionals as well as the curious. Starting with the launch in December 2006, the website is updated on a monthly/weekly basis from January 2007 to May 2008, then on a weekly/daily basis until the end of the festival.
