[edit] Controversies on tour
The China national under-23 football team have recently struggled with player misconduct (including violence) and a lack of winning games, which have placed immense pressure on the team and the Chinese Football Association from the Chinese domestic media.
[edit] England tour
In February 2007, the U-23 team trained - in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games - at Chelsea F.C.'s training complex at Cobham, Surrey for two weeks and were scheduled to play three friendly unofficial fixtures, against the reserve teams of Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and Brentford.
At the beginning of the tour, several players were reported to have complained about the quality of their training pitch, being unable to train regularly on the same field used by Chelsea and at being denied showers because they were used by female players and students from King's College, London, who have shared use of the site[citation needed].
The match against Chelsea Reserves ended in a 1-0 loss. Their following match against QPR was abandoned following a mass brawl, in which China's Zheng Tao was knocked unconscious. Zheng was taken by ambulance to Hillingdon Hospital, west London, and was reported to have lost a tooth and suffered two cracks in his jaw. The English FA is considering a charge against the QPR club of failing to control its players. The proposed match against Brentford match was cancelled.[1]. Following this incident, the Chinese FA dismissed seven players from the tour. [2]
