[edit] Plot

The story concerns the bitter clash of personalities between two teachers at a Catholic school. On the one hand there is Joseph Dobbs, who is well-liked by his students. On the other hand is Jerome Malley, the strict and demanding Greek and Latin teacher. The two men have wildly differing opinions on how to educate their charges. The play also deals with Paul Reese, a young man who has just accepted a position teaching gym class to the students. Paul is a witness to the animosity between the two older men, and this rivalry may be responsible for a random and increasingly gruesome series of violent attacks by the students upon their peers for no apparent cause.

[edit] Trivia

  • This was the only play that Marasco ever wrote. He initially wrote the script in 1966 under the title The Dark.
