Chicken Licken is an Africa-based fast-food chain that primarily serves chicken. Its first store was built in 1981 at Ridgeway; in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to the Sunday Times Markinor 2003 Brand Survey, Chicken Licken is the second biggest fast food brand in South Africa. According to Henny Penny Corporation, its parent company, Chicken Licken is the biggest non-American fried chicken franchise in the world. Because its regular meals are neither popular nor cheap in some African countries where it has franchises, the chain also serves dishes such as meat pie, jollof rice, fried rice, and chili chicken.
The name of the restaurant and its parent company are derived from one of the names of the fable The Sky is Falling, which also features as "Henny Penny".
