Chickasaw is a city in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 6,364. It is included in the Mobile metropolitan statistical area.

Chickasaw is located at 30°45′54″N, 88°5′1″W (30.764987, -88.083713)GR1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.8 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.5 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (3.06%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 6,364 people, 2,747 households, and 1,747 families residing in the city. The population density was 554.7/km² (1,436.3/mi²). There were 2,989 housing units at an average density of 260.5/km² (674.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 88.89% White, 8.12% Black or African American, 1.35% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,747 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.6% were married couples living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 86.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,036, and the median income for a family was $33,125. Males had a median income of $29,074 versus $21,181 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,190. About 13.0% of families and 17.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.1% of those under age 18 and 13.9% of those age 65 or over.
