Chick Chick BOOM is a Flash-based action game created by Extra Toxic, with help from Nintendo. Made specifically for Easter, the game involves a bunch of chicks that you must protect from a black rabbit who tries to kill them, while protecting his own chicks. You can give your own chicks and the opposing chicks names of your own. You can also name your team and the enemy's team (The default name of the rabbit is the "Poster Bunny"). The game has 10 levels, each introducing new features, and unlocking wallpaper for a specific game after beating it. After that, you can play a Pro Mode, where you can go on as long as you survive.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay is comparable to that of Worms. You are trying to protect a group of 5 yellow chicks from the attacks of the Poster Bunny, while trying to kill his chicks, which are coloured black. Both your chicks and those of the Poster Bunny are in a field, seperated by a wall in the center. Your goal is to draw symbols in order to launch attacks at the Poster Bunny's chicks, while drawing other symbols to protect yourself from his attacks. Several other, random, factors come into play, such as clouds, sunshine, and others. You must also pay attention to reload times: After launching an attack or using a defensive object, you must wait a while before you can use that weapon/object again. If you do not draw a symbol well enough, your attack will fail.

Each chick has 100 HP. Each attack takes a certain amount of HP off their life if it hits them. If an attack's symbol is well-drawn, that attack will inflict more damage than normal. Life can be restored in various ways. If all of a chick's HP is depleted, the chick is lost. If all 5 chicks are gone, the player loses.

[edit] Attacks and Defenses

Attacks:

Weight: To use the Weight, you must draw a symbol of a weight. A shadow will then appear above a random spot on the opponents' part of the field, which gradually increases in size, before a random object crashes into the ground. From level 7 and onwards, if you manage to hit 2 or more chicks with 1 Weight, you will be able to perform a "Double Smash" by drawing another weight: This sends not one, but two random objects crashing into the opponents' field. If you hit 2 or more chicks with these, you get another Double Smash. You will continue to get them until you hit one or zero chicks, which will turn your weight into just one again. Weights can be evaded by walking out of the way.

Bomb: To use the Bomb, you must draw a symbol of a bomb. A bomb will then be flung over the wall in the center of the field. It then rebounds off the ground and wall a few times, before coming to a halt. A countdown is initiated as soon as the bomb is thrown - when it reaches zero, it will explode, damaging any chicks around it. From level 10 and onwards, if you manage to hit all 5 of the opponents' chicks with one bomb, one of your own chicks becomes a 'Bomb Defuser. If he touches a bomb that the Poster Bunny throws at you, he will diffuse it, rendering it harmless. After defusing one bomb, the ability is lost. Bombs can be evaded by moving out of the way.

Lightning: To use the Lightning, draw a lightning flash. You must be in or past level 3 to use Lightning. Lightning can only be used if there is a gray cloud over the field. After drawing the symbol, a bolt of lightning will begin to be created underneath the cloud. Once it is big enough, it will zap any chicks in the vicinity, including any chicks belonging to the person who used the attack. If the gray cloud disappears or turns white before the lightning is launched, it will not be launched. Lightning can be countered by quickly building a Lightning Rod. Beware though - the less prongs there are on the Lightning Rod (AKA the less perfect you draw the Lightning Rod symbol), the higher the chance that one or more bolts of lightning will go past the Rod and still hit a chick.

Toadstool: To use the Toadstool, draw a toadstool. You must be in or past level 4 to use the Toadstool. Using the Toadstool will cause a number of toadstools to sprout out of the ground on the opponent's part of the field. Any chicks that run into these toadstools will turn green, and will rapidly begin to take small amounts of damage (It being slightly higher if the symbol was well-drawn). This effect will either wear out on it's own after a small while, or will immediately be cured if you draw the Medicine symbol.

Balloon: To use the Balloon, draw a hot-air balloon. You must be in or past level 5 to use the Balloon. Using the Balloon will cause a hot-air balloon to appear in the opponents' field. If a chick hops into it, or if enough time passes, the balloon will begin to slowly fly upwards. If the balloon scrolls off the top of the screen, the chick inside it is lost forever. To counter the Balloon, draw Sandbags. Each Sandbag will weigh down the Balloon, and thus slowly bring it back down to the field again. The better the Balloon symbol was drawn, the more Sandbags you need to get it down.

Defenses:

Direction Arrows: To use the Direction Arrows, either draw an arrow pointing left, or one pointing right. Doing this will make your chicks move either left or right, in order to avoid Weights and Bombs. Be warned though - If your arrows are not drawn so well, one or two chicks might not follow your order to move.

Lightning Rod: To use the Lightning Rod, draw a simplified lightning rod. You must be in or past level 3 to use it. This will make a Lightning Rod appear in the center of your part of the field, which will ward off any lightning attacks caused whilst it is up. However, the Lightning Rod stays for a fairly small amount of time, so you must time it precisely. If you do not draw the symbol well enough, it will have less prongs, which means there is a higher chance for the lightning to bypass the Lightning Rod and hit chicks anyway.

Medicine: To use the Medicine, draw a line up, then draw a circle. You must be in or past level 4 to use it. This will cure all your chicks of disease (If they have run into Toadstools). If the sun is shining while you use Medicine, all your chicks will receive a health boost.

Sandbag: To use the Sandbag, draw a sandbag. You must be in or past level 5 to use it. If there is a Balloon on your side of the field, a sandbag will be attached to it, weighing it down slightly. Attach more sandbags until the Balloon reaches the ground again to rescue the chick inside it (If there is one inside it).

[edit] Other Factors

Clouds: While white clouds do nothing, gray clouds can do two things. First of all, they can make it rain - This will make worms appear in the field it's raining in. If your chicks eat worms, they will recover some health. Second of all, if there is a gray cloud in the air, it will allow you to use Lightning attacks. Clouds appear from level 2 and onwards.

Sun: If the sun is shining, using Medicine will restore a significant amount of health to all of your chicks, if you are in or past level 8. The sun does not shine for very long, however, so you have to be fast.

Sprinkler: The sprinkler randomly appears out of the ground in or past level 9. If you quickly click it, it will begin to sprinkle water, which will cause worms to appear.

Worms: These appear while it rains or if a sprinkler is activated, and will restore health to your chicks if they eat them. Worms appear from level 2 and onwards.

Hardhat: If you manage to kill 2 or more of the opponents' chicks with one attack, one of your chicks will acquire a hardhat. This will temporarily lessen the damage caused by any attack. Hardhats can be acquired in level 6 and onwards.

Bomb Defuser: If you hit all 5 of the opponents' chicks with one bomb, one of your chicks will become a Bomb Defuser. This allows him to defuse a bomb thrown into your part of the field by walking into it. After doing this once, he will lose the ability. Bomb Defusion is available from level 10 and onwards.

[edit] Pro Mode

After clearing the game's regular 10 stages, you can play in Pro Mode. In this mode, the Poster Bunny has endless chicks - If you kill his chicks, new ones will take their place. In this mode, it is your objective to simply kill as many of the Poster Bunny's chicks as you can before all of your chicks die. All weapons, defenses and other factors appear in this mode.

Killing a certain number of Poster Bunny's chicks unlocks wallpapers for Chick Chick BOOM itself, however, it is unknown what the exact amount is.

[edit] Updates

  • On April 6, 2007, Extra Toxic added sound effects to the game. They also added a button to disable music and sound effects.

[edit] Trivia

  • The default names for your chicks are the first names of the game's developers.
  • Chubby Snow, the main character from UPIXO In Action: Mission in Snowdriftland, also by Extra Toxic and Nintendo, randomly appears when using the Weight item. He is sitting in a chair that falls down.
