Chicago hardcore

Chicago developed a hardcore punk scene in the early 1980's that was more experimental than its counterparts in Washington, DC, L.A., and New York City.

Chicago's hardcore scene developed in and around Northside bars and venues around 1982. The most popular of these bands were Naked Raygun, Strike Under, Articles Of Faith, The Effigies, and Big Black. A hardcore scene also developed in nearby Evanston, Illinois, the home of Northwestern University, and in Champaign, Illinois, the location of the University of Illinois.
