Chi Theta Chi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chi Theta Chi is an institution at Stanford University. Originally the house of the Theta Chi fraternity of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter, Chi Theta Chi transformed itself into a coeducational cooperative house in 1973. Located at the corner of Alvarado Row and Campus Drive, it is known around campus as the beautiful white house with a Mediterranean facade.
The house is rumored to hold some of the greatest intellectual achievements of the 20th century at Stanford University in its exclusive subterranean vaults. Among its treasures are rare tapes of Jerry Garcia's earliest performances and Corwin Hardham's first alternative energy prototypes.
The showers are the hallmark of the house. Each floor is fully equipped with a locker-room style "team shower," in which men and women alike may shower together prior to attending the illustrious course offerings of the university. This is but one of the seven prongs of the house's advanced energy efficiency platform. In fact, this past year, Chi Theta Chi reduced its thermal gas use by 20% and its electricity use by 100%. Few thought it possible. Chi Theta Chi performs the impossible.
Over the past few years Lane B, which runs alongside the house, has become the frequent home of the Squid Bus. This full size school bus has been outfitted for desert travel and canoe trips by a team of Theta Chi associates.
Stop by anytime for a freshly baked pizza or naan, cooked in the dragon-style cobb wood-fired oven in the house's Shakespearian courtyard.
