[edit] van halen
as long as you're in the groove on VH editing, you should feel free to claim the page with the {{inusefor|120 minutes (or whatever)}} template and go crazy, rather than making small edits and worrying about being locked out. if i see anybody write over your start, i'll revert. - sounds good. i like what you're doing with the article, though after much personal retraining i'm bending strongly toward as economic a style as possible — in almost all writing, and especially at wikipedia. if i have time, it might work well (dumb as it sounds) if you do your thing, and then i go along behind and try to remove as many words as possible! LOL. seriously. let me know what you think. i just did that to one of your latest edits. SaltyPig 07:20, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

- sorry for the reply delay (was warring elsewhere). i suspect the biggest criticism the article might get under review is POV. i'm going to avoid POV when i can, but... discussing art is inherently POV, and i find the requiring of sources for comments such as "roundly criticized" to be a little too painstaking and mechanical. i'm probably deviating from wikipedia guidelines here, but i think it's more efficient to allow uncited POV of that variety, and wait for disagreements (real disagreements, not simply notes that it's POV) to tighten any loose claims, or at least offset them. one thing i've noticed about some FAs is that they get put up as FAs, surviving the entire process, and (IMO) they're not polished. let's take our time and really hone this one before submitting. i'll do a supergeek sweep just before you submit it. and then we should probably tag team on vandal patrol when it's a FA — assuming we're both still alive in 2032! (just a joke there. heh heh). SaltyPig 17:52, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Request: Van Halen Article Review
The lead could still be improved to include highlights of the band's history (at least mention the lead singer changes), mentioning the highlights of each period. That's a good selection of images, but there are still a few without captions. While I don't mind using fair use images in a featured article, other editors have objected to fair use licensing for featured articles; there's been some discussion on Wikipedia talk:What is a featured article and Wikipedia talk:Featured article candidates. slambo 11:11, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Vh3.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Vh3.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
