Talk:Chevrolet Spectrum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I owned a 1987 Chvrolet Spectrum 4 door turbo sedan (purchased new in the summer of 1988) and had read the brochures and read numerous articles in popular car magazines of the day about the car. Notable was a 1987 article in Car and Driver comparing ten or eleven 'hot hatches' in which the Isuzu version of the Turbo Spectrum fared poorly and the Acura Integra (which I also owned) won the comparo.
There was a slight restyle of the vehicle in 1987, notably the switch from square halogen headlights to wider flush mounted units. The Turbo model was introduced in 1987, as a sedan only. Standard features on the Turbo sedan included an AM/FM radio, a horizontal boost guage, and bridgestone RE88 performance tires on 14" wheels with hubcaps. In 1988 a Turbo hatchback joined the lineup, and a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, cassette stereo and right side mirror made added as standard features to the Turbo sedan.
The Turbo models were dropped from the 1989 model at the same time Chevrolet switched the cars to the Geo brand. 1989 was the last model year of the Spectrum in the US market.
I have no images of my spectrum (lost almost all of my pics in a move) but know the model differences and can single out any pics i see online to add to the wiki, that wold help show the differences between various models.
Lastly, when I got my car, I read a comment about it having the worst crash statistics of any subcompact currently sold (in 1987 or 88') in America. I can try to find that source as well. Neworderrr 20:40, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Neworderrr
