[edit] Middle name

Cheddi Jagan's middle name is Bharat not Berret. (posted by User:65.2.76.102 in the article, moved here by Guettarda)

According to www.jagan.org his middle name is Berret. This website is run by someone named Nadira Jagan-Brancier. It looks authoritative. Can you cite a source showing that he spelled it "Bharat"? Guettarda 22:30, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Nadira Jagan is the daughter of Cheddi and Janet Jagan.

From [1]: "'Berret', not Bharrat was a middle name he adopted because it was fashionable at the time for East Indians in the Caribbean to anglicise their names." This extinguishes the 'Bharat' claim. —Seselwa 23:45, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Middle name ???

Beret incorrect IN THE Stabroek News letters column of April 8, Mr Jeremy Williams of the Unity Party refers to Dr. Jagan’s name as Cheddi Beret Jagan and accuses the PPP (People’s Progressive Party) of using “Bharrat” as his middle name.

For general information, let it be known that Dr Jagan made it clear that he wanted to be known as Cheddi Jagan, not Cheddi Berret Jagan or Cheddi Bharrat Jagan.

This point was made to an historian recently by Mrs Jagan and he changed his incorrect usage of “Bharrat”.

In his book “West on Trial” Dr Jagan wrote; “in my ‘teens’ I adopted my middle name ‘Berret’ for I thought it was a fashionable thing to do”.

“Berret” was never Cheddi Jagan’s genuine middle name and he dropped it long ago.

How the “Bharrat”developed, no one seems to know, but that was never his middle name.

During the time of his Presidency, Dr Jagan clearly stated that he wanted no middle name or initial to be used, but wished to be known by his real name – Cheddi Jagan.

So the ‘Beret’ of Mr Williams’ letter is also incorrect and even mis-spelled according to the “West on Trial”. Donald Ramotar, M.P General Secretary PPP http://www.guyanachronicle.com/ARCHIVES/archive%2012-04-05.html

[edit] POV?

this is not a topic i know anything about but a sentence like "Through his tireless efforts, the small country of Guyana experienced a wealth of benefits, social advancement and economic prosperity" is clearly not a neutral point of view. --Xorkl000 01:03, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, you're right - but unfortunately Jagan is a saint-figure to many Guyanese, particularly those of the Indian community, so the article is prone to POV-pushing. Camillus (talk) 01:09, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Huh?

Can anyone tell me why this article is in Category:Conspiracy theories? --Tsunami Butler 01:17, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
