Talk:Che Guevara in popular culture
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
i'm not really sure if the 'che' in 'evita' is actually meant to be the real-life che guevara. is there any real citation of this?
- Hmmm ... well, Antonio Banderas was made up and dressed to look just like Ernesto, wasn't he? Polaris999 01:50, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

- I'm positive that the Che in Evita was not meant to ACTUALLY BE Che Guevara. He's based on him, he's meant to evoke images of the famous revolutionary, but saying that Banderas was "made up" to look like Guevara is a total judgement call. As they were both Latin American revolutionaries named "Che", the jump is obvious, but the character in Evita is never even addressed by name. Other than the "Waltz for Eva and Che", the character could be called "Unnamed Revolutionary Narrator". Given the historical exactitude of the musical, placing Che Guevera and Eva Peron within the same 100-mile radius would be an egregious misstatement of fact. He's just a guy called "Che". I'll be rewriting the section to reflect this (and moving the Ab Fab reference into the TV section...). — MusicMaker 04:26, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Maddox?
Maddox is pretty popular, should he be mentioned somewhere?
[edit] Absolutely Fabulous
Is the specific reference of Absolutely Fabulous in the opening paragraph reall necessary? The opening paragraph should be much more broad to give the indication Guevara's image is popular worldwide. A painting of him in the background of an obscure television program doesn't seem appropriate and it's better suited to be mentioned somewhere else in the article, maybe in a new section called "In television"; surely there should be more mentions of him in other programs. [edit] Copy of a discussion topic that may be of interest to some editors here
The following message was just posted on the Talk:Che Guevara page and I am posting a copy of it below. -- Polaris999 18:57, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- == Cultural depictions of Che Guevara ==
- I started an approach that may apply to Wikipedia's Core Biography articles: creating a branching list page based on in popular culture information. I started that last year while I raised Joan of Arc to featured article when I created Cultural depictions of Joan of Arc, which has become a featured list. Recently I also created Cultural depictions of Alexander the Great out of material that had been deleted from the biography article. Since cultural references sometimes get deleted without discussion, I'd like to suggest this approach as a model for the editors here. Regards, Durova 18:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
