Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre is located right in the heart of the Surfers Paradise shopping centre in the Chevron Renaissance development. The development also includes The Towers of Chevron Renaissance apartments and hotel, which is only a few minutes walk from the famous Surfers Paradise beach and the equally famous Cavill Avenue Mall. The project of Circle on Cavill is developed by Sunland Group, who also developed Q1 apartment, the tallest residential apartment in Australia.

The Shopping complex is centered around an open-air boulevard lined with plants and a water fountain, and is spread out over three floors, including an underground day spa. There are several dining areas throughout the centre, which cater for breakfast, lunch and alfresco dining. The retail shopping includes a range of designer boutiques, fashion, jewellery and accessory stores. The Coles supermarket is the largest of the retailers in the centre with Infinity Attractions and Paradise Day Spa being the next largest.

Located in the shopping centre are popular attractions such as

  • Lansdowne Road - Irish Tavern - Traditional Irish pub mixed with Gold Coast style
  • Paradise Day Spa and Bath House - Japanese and Roman inspired Bath House and Day Spa.
  • Infinity Attractions - Walk through maze and light show entertainment experience.
  • Tower Ballroom - Ballroom and Events centre

Car Parking is provided underground over two floors and usually includes a free period for customers of the shops within the complex.

[edit] History

The current site once accommodated the Chevron Hotel which was a famous Gold Coast landmark. The new development was named Renaissance, as it is widely considered to be a catalyst in the revitalising of the Surfers Paradise tourist district and was completed in the October 2000. The original hotel housed the Skyline Lounge (opened August, 1957), which was a popular landmark bar and nightclub where many local and international acts would perform. The lounge was the launching pad for many great Australian performers such as Johnny O'Keefe, Ricky May and Colleen Hewitt.
