Chetwynde School

Chetwynde School is a non-selective, independent, private school, which takes boys and girls from ages 3 to 18. It includes a kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and sixth form. The school is situated on a 17 acre site on Ratings Lane in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England.

Chetwynde was founded as Our Lady's Chetwynde School in 1938 by nuns as an all-girls catholic school. It became mixed and independent from the church in the 1980's, though it retained its catholic faith. Its current headteacher is Isobel Nixon; during her time in control, the school dropped the "Our Lady's" prefix from its title.

The school has achieved high levels of sporting and academic success. Its academic results are regulary the best amongst non-selective schools in Cumbria [1].

In sport, the school has competivite rugby union, football, cricket, hockey, tennis, cross-country running and athletics teams. However, it is most notable for success in netball and swimming. In swimming, the school has achieved a number of national titles, [2] being the only school to have won medals at every English National Schools' Primary Championship since their inauguration in 1995. They have represented England in international tournaments [3]. In netball, the school is the home of the Cumbria country team and has regulary reached national finals.
