Chestnut-breasted Negrofinch inhabits subtropical/ tropical (lowland) forest, mangrove and shrubland habitats of Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo & Uganda. The status of the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
