Chester A. Arthur Home

The Arthur Home was the residence of the twenty-first President of the United States, Chester A. Arthur. Located at 123 Lexington Avenue in New York City, Arthur spent most of his adult life living in the residence. It was at 123 Lexington Avenue that Arthur first took the oath of office for the American presidency upon the assassination of President James Garfield. The residence has undergone many changes, among them being divided into apartments, a grocery store, and a beauty shop. A commemorative bronze plaque was placed upon the building in 1964 by the Native New Yorkers Historical Society and New York Life Insurance.
