The Chesapeake and Albemarle Railroad (AAR reporting marks CA) is a short-line railroad operated by the North Carolina and Virginia Railroad and is owned by RailAmerica. The C&A started operations on April 2, 1990. They have 82 miles of track from Chesapeake, Virginia to Edenton, North Carolina. C&A interchanges with both Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation. The railroad was part of the now defunct Norfolk & Southern railroad, which continued south crossing the Albemarle sound and onto Mackeys Ferry and Plymouth.
