Chesapeake Ranch Estates, Maryland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Chesapeake Ranch Estates, also known locally as the Ranch Club is a large community in Lusby, Maryland in southern Calvert county. It is composed of nearly 4,000 homes. The CRE is close to the attractions of Solomons Island as well as in close proximity to Patuxent Naval Air Station. The community maintains two private Chesapeake Bay beaches, Driftwood and Seahorse, and one manmade lake, Lake Lariat, as well as horse stables, a small Airfield, horseshoes field, a duck pond, and a camp ground. Homes within the community range from beautiful cliff top waterfront homes and affordable former beach escapes, to ramshackle huts and rundown log cabins. Although it is a very charming neighboorhood; there have been several car accidents in the community due in part to winding roads, speeding motorists, and a lack of sidewalks. This issue is an ongoing controversy in the community. Letters are printed in the monthly newsletter back and forth on the issue of the lack of sidewalks and bike trails in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates. The community is made up mainly of families with children. There are several schools within a 10 mile radius. Although the Chesepeake Ranch Estates started as a gated community the gates came down sometime in the late 1990's, not without some controversy.
