[edit] Biography
Cheryl Chin was born and raised in Singapore till the age of 13 before her mother married Charles Cunningham, now her step father, and migrated to the USA in 2001. Both of her biological parents, Albert Chin and Irene Lim are of the Chinese descent. Cheryl has a brother that is six years younger as well as 2 step siblings and a half brother. Cheryl spent her first 7 years of education in Convent schools before attending a co-ed school for the first time when she migrated to the USA.
Cheryl began working at the age of 16 as a factory worker in Taylor, Texas, making picture frames. When she was 21 years old, with nothing to her name accept 2 years of college, she put her Psychology studies on hold and returned to Singapore to become an actress. Her mother gave her a 6 month ultimatum to find a job in Singapore or return to USA to get a degree in business. She nabbed her first acting gig in musical theatre (staged on a cruise liner) on the very last week of that 6 months.
One year later, Cheryl beat out thousands of contestants at the Star Search Singapore 2003 audition and made it to the final 12 (comprised of 6 females and 6 males). She emerged as Singapore's Female Champion and went on to represent Singapore in the Star Search Grand Finals. Although she did not win the Grand Finals, she went on to perform in Singapore's prime time television dramas and comedy series.
