Cherry Springs Dance Hall

Cherry Springs Dance Hall - 16 miles NW of Fredericksburg, Texas in Gillespie County's portion of the Texas Hill Country is the Texas farming community of Cherry Springs. The dance hall was established in 1889 as a stop for cattle drives. It was originally run by Herman Lehmann - son of German immigrants, Apache captive and adopted son of Comanche chief Quanah Parker. The venue has played host to some of the greatest legends of country music. Hank Williams once played here, as did Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Webb Pierce, Ernest Tubb, George Jones, and many others. It was here on October 9, 1955, that the Louisiana Hayride [1] Tour played, with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and others, on the cusp of international fame for the performers. Geronimo Trevino III in his book Dance Halls and Last Calls - A History of Texas Country Music Dance Halls in Texas, 1800’s – Present day likens the talent who have played there to "The history of country music."
