Cherrim (チェリム Cherimu?) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Cherrim is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, alongside Pachirisu and Drapion. The purpose of Cherrim in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Cherrim comes from the English word cherry in reference to sakura, and cherubim, the plural form of cherub.
The English name Cherrim was officially confirmed on Pokemon-games.com,[3] and in the May 2007 (Volume 215) issue of Nintendo Power.[4]

[edit] Biological characteristics
Cherrim appear to be humanoid Pokémon, with foliage making up their limbs and bodies. Cherrim change their appearance depending on how sunny it is outside. If it is raining or Sunny Day is not in effect, Cherrim appears as two crossing purple petals with a short green stem and two deep pink feet. Once the sun appears, Cherrim "blossom" and have yellow bodies covered by pink petals, with two large berries (likely cherries) on their heads. The petals on their forehead and back resemble those of a Sakura tree. The four petals on their back are connected to a round stem on the back of their heads.[5]
[edit] In the video games
Cherrim is one of many new Pokémon to have made its first appearance upon the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS. Cherrim evolves from Cherinbo at level 25.[5]
Cherrim's ability, Flower Head, introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, strengthens Cherrim and another Pokémon in its team when Sunny Day is in effect, although that ability may only work on the ally Pokémon during a double battle. Cherrim learns the existing attack Sunny Day, to go along with its ability, as well as a new attack called Prayer, which prevents critical hits. Cherrim can also learn a new attack, Trouble Seed, which temporarily changes the target's ability to Insomnia.[6]
Cherrim appears differently depending on the weather or time of day in the game, similar to Castform. When the game is not in daytime, or when the attack Sunny Day, which covers the field in a bright light, is not active, Cherrim will appear as a closed up flower bud with purple petals enclosing its body and two short legs protruding from the end.[7][8]
Cherrim has decent Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Although it can learn Solarbeam and Sunny Day to power up Solarbeam, it is one of the few Grass Pokémon with Sunny Day that cannot also learn Synthesis, hindering its usefulness.
