Chengannur,ചെങ്ങന്നൂര്(in malayalam),is a city and a municipality in Alappuzha district of Kerala state in South India. Chengannur (also spelt Chenganoor/ Chenganur/ Chengannoor), is located in the extreme east part of Alappuzha district.

It is 117kms north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the MC Road. It is watered by the river Pamba. It borders Pathanamthitta district.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Chengannur had a population of 25,391. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Chengannur has an average literacy rate of 88%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 88% and female literacy of 88%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Nammalwar of the 1st millennium CE, describes Chenkunrur or Chenganoor as a town where the smoke, emanating from the Vedic ritual yagna, fills the sky and as a place surrounded by rich lush vegetation (of bananas and coconuts). The name is derived from Chennu Ninne Uru which means 'the place where they stopped'. It was named after a temple of Shiva and Parvati was established here after a sage made them come and stop there..

Chengannur is famous for its Shiva temple Chengannur Mahadeva Kshetram, where thousands have darshan of aaratu festival goddess parvathy. Here goddess parvathys abdomen part fell when lord mahavishnu used his sudharshana chakram to cut her body when lord shiva was dancing in anger with her body - after she fell in homa gundam of daksha yagnam. The devotees to the famous Temple in Sabarimala where Lord Ayyappa is believed to be present will do darshan in the Shiva temple in Chengannur as Shiva is supposed to be the father of Ayyappa. (Lord Ayyappa was brought up as an orphan in the Panthalam Palace)

Situated on the banks of the scenic Achenkovil river, around 15kms from Chengannur,Venmoney is famous for the Sharngakavu Devi Templeand the "kettukazcha" on "Vishu" day.Attached to the temple is the historic "kaavu" made famous by the Malayalam film industry.The panchayat abounds in Temples and Churches. Educational institutions-Marthoma Higher Secondary School,Chinmaya Vidyalaya.

Mulakuzha panchayath is situated around 6kms from chengannur on the MC Road,blessed with beautiful nature.Famous "Century hospital" is in this panchayath.It is the only corporate hospital in Central Kerala, is owned by Central Travancore Specialists Hospital Ltd.Other famous attraction is "Mulakuzha Gandharvamuttam Devi temple" which is famous for legends.Temples, Mousque and Churches are situated nearby showing brotherhood to all communities.Important institutions are GVHSS Mulakuzha,MMARS,Good Semeritan's etc.It borders Pathanamthitta district..Mulakkuzha 'Juma Masjid'is also situated here..
