Chencha

Chencha is a town in southern Ethiopia. Located in the Semien Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, 37 kilometers north of Arba Minch, this town has a latitude and longitude of 6°15′N 37°34′E.

Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia published in 2005, Chencha has an estimated total population of 10,012, consisting of 4533 men and 5479 women.[1]

Chencha had been the capital of Gamu-Gofa province until those offices were transferred to the more accessible city of Arba Minch. The town is located in the middle of the homeland of the Dorze people.
