[edit] Background

Chemosh also known as Lord of the Undead and the Prince of Bone, is the god of death. The white dragons are followers of Chemosh since they are also fans of icy coldness and long slumbers.

He is often described as the lord of false redemption, as although he offers immortality, the price of that immortality is eternal corruption. Nearly all the evil undead on Krynn have become that way through a pact with Chemosh or one of his minions.

Clerics of Chemosh generally wear black robes and white masks that resemble a human skull. The eldest cleric is known as the Deathmaster, and is able to cast powerful attack spells.

Recently Chemosh has been recruiting beings known as the Beloved of Chemosh, regular people seduced by Beloved, tricked into giving themselves to Chemosh "a god of unending life", killing them with an almost vampire-like kiss placed on the upper left chest, then reviving in a similar fashion to necromancy, although they still seem alive in most respects. The original Beloved was Mina, although she merely started the chain of Beloved, keeping her life.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details about The Dark Disciple trilogy follow.

In Amber and Ashes, book one of the Dark Disciple, he stops Takhisis' minion, Mina from ending her life. Instead he seduced her and planned on using her in to rule the world. On an adventure to the Tower of the Blood Sea he lost Mina and now believes her dead, tricked by the illusion of her soul, created by Nuitari's two wizard assistants.

In Amber and Iron, book two, Chemosh discovers that Mina is actually an illusion with the help of Ausric Krell. Mina also manages to escape from Tower of the Blood Sea. It also details how Chemosh suspects Mina of cheating on him. The biggest surprise is that Mina is a god of light. Mina thinks that she is a human herself, as she was tricked by the late Takhsis. It is also discovered that the Beloved could be killed only by innocence, but as innocence destroys the beloved, innocence is also destroyed.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Trivia

It is interesting to note that the process by which the Beloved kill mirrors early 20th century vampire-related fiction, though the most commonly known example of this method is from Herzog's version of the film 'Nosferatu' (sucking of the blood from the breast).
