Checking from behind
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Checking from behind is a penalty in ice hockey. When a checking from behind call is made, the offending player receives a five minute major as well as being ejected from the game. In most amateur leagues, suspensions are commonly given out for anywhere to 1-4 games, depending on how the referee writes up the incident on the game sheet. In order to prevent these penalties, pictures of stop signs have been placed on the backs of jerseys in amateur leagues saying that if you see the sign chances are the puck carrier could be injured.
