[edit] History

CHBN, which signed on the air on February 17, 2005, is Edmonton's first rhythmic Top 40 outlet and by default the only contemporary hit radio station in the market proper. It is also the second station owned by Milestone, even though they joint-ventured with CHUM Group to obtain the license.

When the station was first being promoted, 91.7 FM was being portrayed as Edmonton's first 'Urban Music' format station. A little known fact was that the station first tested its signal using an iPod, seeing as their studios were not yet built![citation needed]

The local hip hop/R&B/urban music fanbase was very excited at this development for the local scene. It followed through with this format for several months until 96X (96.3 FM), Edmonton's top 40 station, changed its format to country and its name to Big Earl. After this surprise development, The Bounce felt it necessary to appeal to this abandoned pop music listening fanbase. As such, it is now common to hear contemporary rock bands such as Nickelback and All-American Rejects on what used to be an urban format station.

[edit] Programming

When the station started its launch, the lineup consisted of Mornings with Jonny Staub and Ceara K, Natalee Taylor in middays, Brad Kelly doing afternoons and Kwame for evenings, with Zack handling weekends/MD duties. Staub, K and Kelly had previously worked across town for then-CHR CKNG-FM 92.5. Kwame was hired after a stint hosting drive in Kitchener, Ontario. Taylor was hired from evenings in Kelowna, British Columbia. Zack was out of radio, however, hired once the station launched.

The inaugural morning show lasted less than a year, after program director James Stuart decided to "switch" Staub and Kelly. The reavamped morning show was retitled "Kelly and Company" with Kelly and K being joined by Lamya Assiff (News) and Wendy Sandwith (weather). The show lasted for less than 6 months, and then Kelly was fired. Ceara K then moved from on-air mornings, to weekends. However K also shot up the ranks with a solid move into management, where she became the station's MD and APD.

Pepper and Dylan formed in 2006 and started the current morning show, the Pepper and Dylan Morning Show!

[edit] The Pepper and Dylan Morning Show

Starting at 5:30 AM and ending at 9:00 AM, the Pepper and Dylan morning show was started in January 2006. It stars Pepper, Dylan, Lamya and Robbie the intern. Everyday, the show goes through a schedule. At 6:10, they do a workout. At 7:00 and 8:00, they play the Bounce News and at 8:20, they have the pick of the day, where Pepper, Dylan or a viewer chooses a song which they play on the radio. When the song is finished, five people call in and say whether they liked it or not. For a few weeks, they were trying to get the lowest score possible, a zero out of five, and went through songs like Achy Breaky Heart, Rico Suave and the Hamster Dance. They finally got a zero out of five with She Bangs sang by William Hung.

[edit] The Natalee Taylor Midday Show

On air at 9:00 AM, Natalee Taylor takes over the airwaves. With features like the Morning Edition of the Top 9 @ 9 (the most requested songs of the morning) and the 11am Long distance dedication. At noon, the OLD SKOOL LUNCH is aired, where Natalee programs a full hour of non-stop retro music from the 1970's, 80's and 90s. Aritsts like Madonna, Paula Abdul, Earth, Wind & Fire and others.

[edit] The Jonny Staub Drive Home Show

Taking over for Natalee Taylor, Jonny Staub brings over 10 years of radio broadcasting to the Afternoon Drive Home show. After the "switch" in 2005 ratings for the afternoon drive slot have steadily increased. Staub has been ratings leader (number 1 Drive Show) with females(24-34).

Fast, topical and the biggest songs by request on the way home Jonny hosts the Certified Radio Top 5 @ 5PM, a chance for Bounce listeners to have a say in what is played. Regular News and Weather updates are provided at 4:45pm & 5:45pm from City TV's Asha Tomlinson with Staub providing traffic updates.
