To do the custom sig do: my preferences -> check raw sig.

Then go back to my prefs, then enter the sig you want to be displayed in "Nickname". You need to have the wiki links like [[User:Charlie_Huggard|text to userpage]]. If you need any help with this post on my user_talk ill be able to help. :) --Actown ^e 21:37, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Userfication

{{helpme}} In the past several days I've moved a few pages in which very new users add wikipedia articles of themselves instead of user pages. Usually though I've found that other editors categorize these pages for speedy deletion instead of being helpful and moving the page to the user's talk page first. I think there should be a policy/guideline to the effect of helping new users put their user page in the proper place before jumping to deletion. (the original page would still need to be deleted, but we should still preserve the information the user wrote about themselves, albiet in the wrong place, if it's appropriate for a user page. Could someone drop me a note as to how I would go about creating such a guideline, or if such a guideline already exists? Thanks a bunch! --Charlie^{(@CIRL | talk)} 06:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox image sizes.

Infoboxes look better without all that white space in them. A size of 250 pixels takes up most of that. There are some exceptions, however. Obviously if the source image is much smaller, it would not look so good at 250px, and also, low-colour PNG files don't work so well with down-scaling. For example, the boxshot in the Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri article is shown at the full size of 259px. Showing it at 250px would make the filesize balloon. Doesn't expand the infobox anyway. Charlie My friend, I appreciate the voice of support, but I will not be editing on wikipedia any further, since the investigation was inconclusive. In my case, I am a recent editor, and my experience has been unfailing negative, with a crude personal attack, which was not resolved sucessfully. Everywhere I edit, the editor who attacked me will just claim another sock puppet. Frankly, oldwindybear appears to love this site, and I will leave rather than have any suspicion that I am a puppet. I did protest that this was not resolved with a check of internet addresses, so that I could remain without doing so in a way that would interfere with the work of an established editor.Max 15:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Charlie If you have not read stilstudying's discussion page today, go look. He is editing somewhere - I have forgotten how to check edit history - so you did a heck of a job in convincing this new contributor to stay and help. NICE JOB! Still, if you read this, I am very sorry you got caught up in a personal vendetta against me. Kudos to Charlie for convincing you to stay. Wherever you are editing, I am sure it is good work. (and probably not 42 paragraphs as is my wont! ha!) Take care, and Charlie, nice job!

Widipedia really has the potential to be the greatest free repository of knowledge in history, and available to the most people, but we need good people to do it, and I am glad this person stayed. I really felt at fault, since the attack on him was aimed at me. I have reworded the RfC as per your comment. I maintained that to me, it looked and seemed like an attack but I acknowledged that there could have been good faith. However, as of late, I feel that this really isn't getting anyone anywhere - just a lot of attacks on my actions and me as a person (but you have to read into them to see that, they're not obvious). Welcome, Charlie Huggard/archive/1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, Titoxd, JoanneB, and Freakofnurture.

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. You write: "I'm not yet conviced on the argument that long signatures adversely effect the editing process. ".

That is beyond question. Here's an example I used on WT:SIG:

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/King of Hearts May 2006

If you go into edit mode on both and set them side by side, the contrast is astonishing. The words of the comments in the former stand out well and the signature text is minimal. In the latter, the signature text almost completely drowns out the comments, making it rather difficult, for instance, to locate a particular comment and append a response. --Tony Sidaway 12:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
