[edit] Infobox conversion

Hello. Thanks for converting all those albums, but in the future please follow the format at WP:ALBUMS more closely (specifically, the Length and Professional review sections, and not linking years in the Chronology section). —Slicing (talk) 06:48, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Song infoboxes

When converting infoboxes in song articles, please use {{Infobox Single}} (and see WP:SONG#Infobox) instead of the album infobox. Thanks. —Slicing (talk) 20:18, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I fixed all the relevant pages. Chairman S. Talk 21:30, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Date links

Hi, I noticed your efforts to remove those superfluous year/month links and just wanted to stop by and say thanks; it's a tedious job but the 'pedia is really so much better without silly useless links all over the place. So, thank you for your efforts :) Cheers, Qirex 05:14, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for the encouragement. Chairman S. Talk 05:21, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pet Shop Boys song titles

Hi, maybe you aren't a fan but Pet Shop Boys song titles are always written in sentence case on purpose. This may not be, say, Wikipedia standard but they are the titles that the artists want them released under. Please could you change them back? Thanks. Davidbod 01:14, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for informing me of this, and sorry for the mistake. Chairman S. Talk 23:30, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] X-Treme Gaming

Hello, I am the Director of Community Relations at X-Treme Gaming. I am hoping that you're and administrator, and can help me out. Please let me know either on my talk page, or email me at scolirk@x-treme-gaming.com

Thanks for your time.

[edit] Bonnie Prince Geoffie

Note you deleted contents of this page and redirected to McGillicuddy Serious Party. While the two pages had broadly similar material about his history, the Prince Geoffie page was a stub to be elaborated on, which I see several people made contributions to in the space of a few months, so there is every reason to believe it would continue to develop new material. Those hunting only him are directed to a page which is mostly not relevant, where as my understanding of the redirect function is that it is to prevent duplicate articles where terms are synonyms, not to prevent repition of material in different pages. Repitition is logically necessary with every biography and history article. I am inclined to resurrect the Prince Geoffie stub, but wished to hear your views first. Winstonwolfe 00:36, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I redirected the page because I felt that there was no need to have a seperate page for what is essentially a short-lived fictional character. It seems to me that it would be better to simply have information on the "Prince" at the McGillicuddy Serious Party article instead. Chairman S. Talk 07:11, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Fictional? Reluctant yes, but not fictional :-). Suggest we leave a note in discussion on both sites and see what others think? Winstonwolfe 19:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC) P.S. excellent favourite books and movies :-).
I can confirm the existence of Prince Geoffie. He is indeed a real person fortunately; otherwise we'd have to make him up... :-) Mostlyharmless 22:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
As I explained on Winstonwolfe's talk page; I used the term "essentially fictional", meaning that there is little to expand on what is basically a figurehead for a joke party. Whilst I understand that he's a real and (semi)-notable person; I don't see how we could write more than a few sentences on him, and thus, it seems better to keep information on him on the party's page. Chairman S. Talk 01:39, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Date links

Since you have taken an interest in links. Please be kind enough to vote for my new bot application to reduce overlinking of dates where they are not part of date preferences. bobblewik 20:32, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Album ordinals

Please note that the Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums is a recommended guideline and that users are free to add details to improve it. Thus, please don't remove album ordinals. They've been a long time feature of many album and artist pages. Thanks. --Madchester 22:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Meetup in March

I see that you are listed as a participant in the WikiProject Melbourne. If you are a Melbourne resident I would appreciate your views on the suggested Meetup in March . Please give some indication of your interest, or otherwise, in the idea. Even a simple "No thanks" with your user name would be welcome and assist in assessing the level of support for a meetup. Hello fellow skeptic. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to consider my RfA, which passed this morning. [edit] Chez Wat deletion

Hi, it's seems i'm not sufficiently mastering english to make a better article. Even if this article relate to a bar, his main interest concern game's societies. This way, the article 's notability could be considerered under an other domain than WP:CORP (cultural ?). I don't know enough wikipedia for that. However, in the CORP point of view, i'dont think it could be notable and if this point of view has precedence then it's ok for deletion. In this case, i'll know that this type of contents has no place in the wikipedia.

[edit] Violent Gramma

[edit] My RfA

Hi Chairman S.. Just a quick note to thank you for your support in my RfA, which recently passed 62/13/6. I will do my very best live up to this new responsibility and to serve the community, but please let me know if I make any mistakes or if you have any feedback at all on my actions. [edit] "Fanny" is not vandalism

Regarding your labelling of the word "Fanny" for vagina as vandalism; this is not the case. It was (and still is) a common expression in the United Kingdom. Whilst the anon user could have presented it better, it was not vandalism. Fourohfour 18:27, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I probably shouldn't have marked it as vandalism, however, as per Disambiguation pages, dictionary definitions do not belong there. That's why I removed it. Chairman S. Talk 06:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Improper Deletion of SilentHeroes

I want to advice you to review your deletion of SilentHeroes. It was NOT a brought back copy of the old page that was previously deleted (I would know since I didn't write it, but I _did_ enter the first draft for the new page). The new page was full of info and in MUCH better shape then all the BF1942-mod info-pages on wikipedia. Still, it gets deleted, and then locked. This is not fair. Zarkow 14:19, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I think you may have me confused. It was Chairboy, not me, who deleted that page. Chairman S. Talk 21:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1WW Refactor

Please see Refactor and New discussion.

You were gracious enough to comment on 1WW; as you may know there are now seven competing proposals. On April 6 I suggested that I be permitted to refactor the proposal page into a single, unified proposal. It's my belief that most of us are tending toward the same or a similar restriction on wheel warring. I think it's unwieldy, though, as it stands. A fair number of editors have commented on these distinct versions but (precisely because they are so similar) no single one has gained undisputed consensus. I suggest that a single, improved version may fare better on its way to policy.

Just as I proposed the refactor, an editor brought to our attention yet another competing proposal, which I merged into the others, using the same format. Still another proposal has since been added, bringing the total to 7. The two new proposals are encountering an indifferent reception but they, too, have some merit.

At the time I suggested refactor, I also put myself forward as the editor to write the initial draft, based on the plurality of support for "my" version. Since the two new proposals have been added, this plurality has held.

I don't for a moment feel that this gives me any special right to dictate terms; rather I hope to draft a proposal uniting the best features of existing proposals. Unlike any of the seven currently competing versions, this refactor will be open to editing immediately by any editor. I will ask editors to refrain from supporting or opposing the new draft for the time being; instead, to edit the proposal to reflect their specific concerns. I believe the true consensus policy will then emerge, in true wiki fashion. After all, we're not so far apart.

I come to your talk page today to ask for your comment on this refactor. Clearly this will be a major change to the proposal page and I don't feel comfortable being quite that bold without some expression of interest in the idea. Once the new draft is in place, I hope also for your participation to polish it into a true expression of our values. Let's move forward with this complement to WP:3RR. John Reid 04:06, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just another RFA thank you note

[edit] Possible welcome template problem

Hi!. While placing a template on User talk:C.J. I came across a welcome template you had posted. Right below the welcome was an automated image licensing tag placed by User:OrphanBot, which propagated inside the welcome template's graphical box. I fixed this by placing an ending </div> tag. I think this is a problem with the welcome template markup because, looking at just your first post in edit mode, the missing </div> tag is not there, and I imagine that you substituted the template rather than cut and pasted, so it's not likely a mistake in your copying. I searched Wikipedia:Welcome templates for the template you used, intending to fix it, but didn't find the template, so I thought it might be your personal template and wanted to let you know about the issue. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 01:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Prefuse_73-Vocal_Studies_-_Uprock_Narratives_(album_cover).jpg. [edit] Doing something about the ridiculous date autoformatting/linking mess

Dear Chairman—you may be interested in putting your name to, or at least commenting on this new push to get the developers to create a parallel syntax that separates autoformatting and linking functions. IMV, it would go a long way towards fixing the untidy blueing of trivial chronological items, and would probably calm the nastiness between the anti- and pro-linking factions in the project. The proposal is to retain the existing function, to reduce the risk of objection from pro-linkers.Tony 15:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Newcomer

Your message to User talk:69.181.229.140 was quite rude, and rather uncalled for. The user clearly hasn't read Wikipedia policies on NPOV and original research, but that doesn't give you the right to abuse him. Please read Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers, and in the future, try to be a bit nicer to what are clearly newbies. In addition, see Wikipedia:Vandalism for more civil ways to respond to good-willed vandalism. Chairman S. Talk Contribs 06:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry I am tired. But that is no excuse for biting a newcomer. But after reading his comment on the page, I felt I was being generous.--WhereAmI 06:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
How is "AHSS selection of teachers is very poor, they choose anyone who will accept a low pay and this has affected the students a lot. An example would be the Chemistry teacher who currently teaches in AHSS grades 9 to 12, she is sexist, plays favorites, discriminates, puts her students down and makes the students feel stupid for asking questions. Some teachers can't even speak, let alone spell proper English while they teach in the SAT or IGSE streams. This school was one of the best and now its reputation is ruined and the school administration is crippled. A bad choice for your daughter or son." Good willed vandalism? --WhereAmI 06:46, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Good-willed probably wasn't the best term to use, however, judging by his edit summary ("As a current graduate of the school I've updated the school reputation and the inside scoop of how the school has been running, hiring inexperienced and deranged teachers."), the user is probably fairly young, and was not deliberately meaning to ruin the credibility of Wikipedia. Instead, he/she seems to simply not understand that the material they wrote was unsuitable for an encylopaedia. Thus, one should assume good faith, and explain to the user the relevant policies, and how to contribute to Wikipedia constructively, instead of simply attacking them as you did. Chairman S. Talk Contribs 06:53, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I never judge by the summary until after I read the changes. To me, that summary is a duck down way of trying to get through the users and have the page permanent. They knew what they were doing.--WhereAmI 06:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
From Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers:

"Remember Hanlon's Razor. Behavior that appears malicious to experienced Wikipedians is more likely due to ignorance of our expectations and rules. Even if you're 100% sure that someone is a worthless, no-good, internet troll, a vandal, or worse, conduct yourself as if they're not. By being calm, interested, and respectful, your dignity is augmented, and you further our project."

My point is this: the user was not a known vandal. From the evidence at hand, it simply appeared that he/she did not understand Wikipolicy. You should not have made the assumption that he/she was a malicious vandal, and until you knew better, you should have treated him/her with a measure of civility or politesse. Of course you should have warned him/her, but you should have used a template from Wikipedia:Vandalism. Notice how none of those templates resort to personal attacks? Chairman S. Talk Contribs 07:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! [edit] Verify your data first

Please do not add warnings to a user for attempting to revert bad edits. When a user reverts a bad edit and the edit they had to revert to already contains bad grammar and spelling and whatnot, it is not a cause for warning. -- Century0 23:40, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
