Hello there. My name is Carl; I'm a fairly new Wikipedian living in the United States. I was born in 1981 in the Northeastern coastal city of Portland, Maine and grew up nearby, but now reside in Winter Park, Colorado, a ski town in the Rocky Mountains. I went to high school at Gould Academy, a boarding school in Bethel, Maine, and university at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

My Wikipedia username, charolastra charolo, comes from the Mexican film Y Tu Mamá También, in which a character misinterprets the lyrics of an American rock song as charolastra charolooooooo! and then coins the word "charolastra" to describe a person who lives according to a particular code of ethics. (I would rather have chosen the username charolastra, but it was already taken.)

I am a disabled ski racer who trains and competes full-time for the United States Ski Team. I represented the U.S. at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Paralympics. (My first contribution to Wikipedia was to the page "United States at the 2006 Winter Paralympics.") Aside from skiing, some of my interests include music (such as indie rock, ska, and soul), cycling, linguistics, lexicography, and geography.
