I am planning to add following information in to Channagiri...

[edit] =============================

Channagiri is a small town (Taluk, Davanagere District) having around 18,000 (2001) Population. It comes under "Are-Malenaadu", formerly was part of Shimoga District.

[edit] ================================

Channagiri is famous for historical reasons. It has a beautiful fort at the city center. Also have few forts around in the Taluk. The Taluk is in limelight now because of the aracanut grown in this area. Before it used to be a dry land but now with aracanut being grown in large quantity, the Taluk is showing signs of prosperity.

Places of Interest in Channagiri Taluk:

Channagiri, town as such is a small hamlet, situated just below the Fort. There are few temples in the town that one can visit, which are just at walkable distance. If you like hiking, you can even go the nearby Anjaneya Swamy temple by walk. The best time to visit is on saturday evening when quite a large crown will be present.

1) Channagiri Fort : Believed to be built by Chennammagi, most of the fort is already destroyed, what remains is also worth visiting. There is a temple at the top the fort hill, of Lord Ranganatha Swamy. 2) Shanthi Sagara (Sulekere) -- A Beautiful Lake. Which is also one the largest lake in Karnataka. 3) Shahaji's Tomb in Hodigere 4) Santhebennur (Pushkarani) 5) Ammana Gudda Temple 6) Rangayyana Giri (Trekking Spot)
